GPL compatibility

• Compatibility allows you to combine works under different licenses
  
• Compatibility is a function of two licenses:
  

  A license P is compatible with a license Q if works licensed under P can be distributed under the terms of Q

  
  
• With respect to the GPL, a license is compatible with the GPL if it contains no restrictions which are not in the GPL:
  • New versions of the BSD license are compatible with the GPL
  • No version of the Apache license is compatible with the GPL
    
• or via an explicit conversion clause
  • The LGPL is compatible with the GPL due to section 3
    • "You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinary GNU General Public License instead of this License to a given copy of the Library."
